Joyce Polance Figurative Nudes
JoycesFigurative paintings depict women in intimate relationships with their peers who may signify mothers, sisters, close friends, or lovers. Across a spectrum of emotion—tenderness, sexual tension, jealousy, grief, desire, and anger—I explore the complex relational triangles that emerge when people seek physical and emotional closeness. The figures are painted nude to signal both vulnerability and agency: an unguarded presence paired with the ownership of sexuality, desire, and the body. The work invites viewers to question their assumptions about strength, beauty, power, and intimacy.
